1. How long do you provide support and free updates for customers?
We warrant lifetime support and lifetime free updates (including free major updates) for all customers, which already licensed the v1.0 - 1.2.3600.
However, we reserve the right to change the licensing policy for new customers, after the next major update.
2. The program doesn't view some AI files. Why?
The program v1.0-1.2.2210 displays the embedded thumbnails for AI v7-CS2 and AIT v10-CS2 files only.
The embedded thumbnails in AI files appeared since version 7. However, some v7-CS2 files do not contain the embedded thumbnails.
Usually such files have been exported from other applications (e.g. CorelDRAW).
If you have Adobe Illustrator 10-CS3 you can use our free batch converter.
It can transform the files of any version which can be opened in your Illustrator to files v7-CS3 with embedded thumbnails.
V1.2.2220+ displays the embedded thumbnails for AI v7-CS3 and AIT v10-CS3 files (v1.2.2300+ can display the embedded thumbnails
for AI/AIT CS4-CS6, v1.2.3000+ - for AI/AIT CC 2013+ too). Except the embedded thumbnails in AI7 format, the program can display the embedded
thumbnails in AI CS2+ format. Thumbnails in AI CS2+ format have the sizes up to 256x256x24 (larger than old thumbnails in 4 times).
These thumbnails can contain in AI v9+ and AIT v10+ files saved from Adobe Illustrator CS2+.
ST Thumbnails Explorer (STTEX) v1.5 Beta 6 can show magnificent (up to 600 x 600 pixels)
thumbnails for AI (and AIT) files of all versions (including CS4 - CS6 - CC 2017) by using CorelDRAW 12+, Corel DESIGNER 12+ (since version X6
this product is called "CorelDRAW Technical Suite", but for convenience we will continue to refer on this product as "Corel DESIGNER"
or just "DESIGNER"), and/or Ghostscript. Ghostscript is free for end users, CorelDRAW 12+ and Corel DESIGNER 12+ are commercial products.
With Ghostscript, STTEX 1.5 Beta 6 can display generated thumbnails for AI files v7 - CS6 - CC 2013+. Nevertheless, the files should be saved
in PDF-compatible mode. For all files saved without this mode (including all AIT files) STTEX can display the embedded thumbnails (if any) only.
With CorelDRAW 12-X4 or Corel DESIGNER 12+, the program can display all types of AI files up to AI CS2 and AIT v10-CS2 (with CorelDRAW X5/X6/X7/X8/2017 - AI/AIT CS3-CS6-CC2013+ too)
without any conversion, and save the generated thumbnails to the application database.
Note: Unfortunately, some Illustrator files (especially the newest versions) cannot be processed by CorelDRAW/DESIGNER engines.
Without use of any external engines, v1.5 Beta 6 can display the embedded thumbnails in all formats for all AI/AIT v7 - CS6 - CC 2017 files.
3. My ST Thumbnails doesn't view some EPS files. Why?
You can update ST Thumbnails to v1.5 Beta 6. This version displays any pixel-based EPS files
and embedded previews/thumbnails (if any) for other (general postscript) EPS files.
Also, you can use our free batch converter to convert any EPS files
to an EPS with embedded previews. Besides, if you install Ghostscript
(it is free for all end users), v1.5 Beta 6 will display all EPS files.
If Ghostscript v7.00+ (except Ghostscript v8.70 which has bugs in API) is installed and some EPS files are not displayed properly,
it is very likely that these files are wrong/corrupted (however, please note: currently STTEX supports Ghostscript x32 only, even on Windows x64).
4. I want to see all pages of the PDF files. My ST Thumbnails show the first 10 pages only. Can I fix it somehow?
Of course. To change the default behavior, please click in the main menu Tools | Options | File Formats and enter "0" into the field
"Multi-page mode: Extract up to XX thumbnails for PS/PDF files" (this option sets thumbnails extract for PRN files too).
Also, the mode "Display All File Pages" should be set on the toolbar.
5. I would like to know why my ST Thumbnails 1.2 doesn't read CPT files.
Probably you use ST Thumbnails v1.2.2135 or lower:
- V1.2 - 1.2.2135 displays the CPT thumbnails only if Corel Thumbnails Handler shell extension is installed.
- V1.2.2140 - 1.2.2500 displays the embedded thumbnails for all CPT files v7+
(except files with CIE L*a*b* color space, since v1.2.3000 - including files with CIE L*a*b* color space too), and generates thumbnails
for CPT files v5-6 without use of any 3rd party software.
- V1.5 Beta 6 can render all versions CPT files without use of any Corel software. However, it does not support Corel PhotoPaint effects and
some types of transparency masks which can be used in CPT v7+ files.
Also, this version can use installed CorelDRAW 10-X8-2017, Corel DESIGNER 12-X7-2017, and/or Corel WordPerfect 12-X8 to generate
the high quality CPT v7+ thumbnails.
Please refer to CPToptions.reg file in ST Thumbnails install folder for additional info.
6. My ST Thumbnails doesn't view CorelDRAW X4 CDR files. Will you support these files?
Since CorelDRAW Graphics Suite X4, Corel uses new file structure for CDR, CDT, PAT and CSL files (also for Corel DESIGNER X4 DES files).
Some changes (in CorelDRAW X7 - very essential) have been made in the next versions too.
Currently the program already supports CorelDRAW X4 CDR, CDT, PAT, CPT, CSL v.5.0, and Corel DESIGNER X4 DES files (BTW, v1.2.2500/v1.5 Beta 5
supports CorelDRAW X4-X6 files, v1.2.3000+/v1.5 Beta 6 - X7-X8-2017 files too). It does not require CorelDRAW/DESIGNER X4 installation (however, if CorelDRAW X7+ is installed,
v1.5 Beta 6 can extract high-quality thumbnails from X7+ files in the "External Extract" mode).
Therefore, please update your ST Thumbnails to v1.2.3600 and/or
ST Thumbnails v1.5 Beta 6(or newer if available).
For new Corel formats, the program provides thumbnails for all file pages, displays a file metadata (keywords, notes, fonts,
file object names, etc.) and entire file texts (up to 20 first lines maximally). To extract file metadata and entire file texts, the program doesn't
use any Corel and other 3rd party software.
7. ST Thumbnails 1.2 doesn't display CGM thumbnails. That would sure be a great one to add.
V1.5 Beta 6 can use external engines (currently CorelDRAW 10-X8-2017, Corel DESIGNER 12-X7-2017, Corel WordPerfect 12-X8, Ghostscript 7+,
and MS Office 2003+ Document Imaging) to extract thumbnails (please note, external engines are used in the
"External Extract" mode only).
If CorelDRAW 12+/DESIGNER 12+ is installed, v1.5 Beta 6 can generate thumbnails for CGM files (and then display these thumbnails for all modes).
Besides, with CorelDRAW/DESIGNER/WordPerfect engine, this version can generate thumbnails for the following formats:
CDR, CMX, CDT, PAT, CCX, CLK, AI,
AIT, FH7, FH8, FT8, CPT, DES, CSL, DSF, DRW, DS4, WPG, CPX, CDX, SVG, SVGZ, PCT,
PICT, DXF, DWG, PLT, HGL, FMV, GEM, PIC, VSD, MET, NAP, PPF, FPX, SCT, CT, IMG, PP4, PP5, MAC, CAL, WI, WVL, XPM, XCF, RIF, SHW and some others.
(Please note, some listed formats cannot be supported by the installed CorelDRAW/DESIGNER/WordPerfect version. Also, the installed engine can process not all
files of the given type).
Since v1.5 Beta 3, the program can use the third-party plug-in CADImage.dll
to generate high-quality thumbnails for CGM files (BTW with this plug-in, STTEX can generate high-quality thumbnails for many CAD formats:
DXF, DWG, PLT, HGL, HPGL, SPL, SVG, etc.). Currently this feature is not provided by default, you can add the feature with CAD_Formats.reg
(this file is located in the program install folder, please edit the file (type the correct CADImage.dll path) before merge the file into system registry.
8. Will your program suggest keyword-based search for CDR, CMX, CCX, etc. files?
Since v1.5 Beta 2, the program provides Quick Search feature. This component can search for keywords, notes, other metadata in XMP, IPTC, Exif,
and Adobe IRB metadata sets, just as on entire file text for CorelDRAW 7-X8-2017, Corel DESIGNER 10-X7-2017, MDI, MS Office 2000+, MS Visio 2000+,
HTML, plain text, and some other file formats.
BTW, the program provides Quick Search on offline CD/DVD too.
9. Can your software support CRW RAW files?
Unfortunately, now the program does not provide support of CRW RAW files (nevertheless, since v1.5 Beta 6, TIFF-based (or containing
embedded TIFF thumbnail) RAW formats (FFF, DNG, KDC, NEF) can be show in the Thumbnail Window if "Ignore a file extension" option is turned on).
However this feature is included to ToDo list. We hope support for many RAW formats will be added within the nearest months (including Canon RAW CRW).
10. Can your program support DDS files?
STTEX can display Dynamic Daylight Simulations (DDS) files if DDS Viewer is installed.
DDS Viewer is free Windows Shell extension from NVIDIA Corp. You may download the extension setup from
DDS thumbnails have the size of 300 x 300 px.
11. Under Windows 7, ST Thumbnails Explorer doesn't display the thumbnails for some of TIFF files on my WebDav drive.
Besides, I cannot copy these files to a local drive. I have placed these files on WebDav drive using Windows XP. And under Windows XP
the program didn't have any issues with the display of thumbnails and with copying files. Any ideas?
This issue occurs because a security change that was introduced in Windows XP SP2 affects the WebDAV redirector.
This security change makes sure that an unauthorized server cannot force a client computer into a denial of service attack.
If you try to download a file that is larger than 50000000 bytes (to create a thumbnail of any file,
the file must be (transparently) downloaded by the program (at the first access to the file only, further the thumbnail from the program database will be used),
the client computer interprets this download as a denial of service attack. Therefore, the download process stops.
To resolve the issue, you can change restriction on file size with the system registry editor regedit.exe,
using the information from Microsoft Knowledge Base.
Instead, you can download the zip containing SetWebDavFileSizeLimit.reg,
unzip it to any folder, then double-click the file to merge it with the system registry, and restart the computer.
This will change the WebDAV file size limit on 2GB. If you prefer other file size limit, before the merging, you can open the file in any text editor (e.g. Notepad),
and in the line
edit the value 7fffffff (= 2GB - 1 byte) to the desired hexadecimal value.
